]]> “Business intelligence” is one of the biggest economic buzzwords today. The term refers to the capacity of a business entity to convert all of its capacities into knowledge and to make sure the right people receive the right information through the right channels. Analytics is an important part of business intelligence. So are data, process, and text mining (finding new items in large databases), online analytical and complex event processing, and benchmarking (comparing the performance of one’s own business against the standards of others in the same or a similar field).

One of the biggest names in the field of business intelligence is IBM Cognos, whose motto is “Know your business” (a perfect counterpart to the personal “Know yourself”). IBM has been in business since 1911 and continues to add to its roster of business solutions to keep up with the needs of customers, both real and potential. IBM Cognos Business Intelligence is simple and easy to use, with no real IT support being required to operate it. A wide range of reports can be produced using Cognos, from simple charts that display only a few elements of data to reports that cover many pages and include invoices and weekly inventory reports. The software can also be used to help people figure out how the business is currently being run and in what areas it could be improved. All modules in Cognos Business Intelligence have been optimized for both Web and smartphone format.

Recently, Cognos Insight has been added to the business’s list of solutions. It enables the user to work autonomously. Features of Insight include the multidimensional viewing of data on spreadsheets, email-based sharing of files and the ability to convert raw data into a well- organized dashboard within a matter of seconds and to convey one’s insights on the iPad and Microsoft Excel.

]]> IBM has made it possible for the average employee to bypass the IT department and do it themselves. IBM’s newest product, IBM Cognos Insight, allows employees to answer their business questions independently. The analytics tool enables employees to complete complex data analysis tasks in as little as 60 seconds. The tool aids the employee to visualize company data through scenario models, and the features that the tool offers can be used as part of the user’s individual desktop or part of an Express or Enterprise deployment.

IBM Cognos Insight boasts that the user can make the leap from raw data to ready to publish dashboards in less than a minute. This allows the employee to deliver or share information efficiently. The user can simply drag and drop a worksheet into the workspace and experience an immediate visual representation of their data in the form of grid and chart visuals. The in-memory analytic engine allows the employee to shift business perspectives in a short amount of time which results in original dashboards and scenarios. The employee can maximize his business plans through IBM Cognos by comparing each scenario with possible outcomes, while accounting for the impact of fluctuating market conditions. Although the employee can use the data individually, it can also be used collaboratively through sharing with other users in the employee’s workgroup or organization.

IBM Cognos Insight allows files to be shared through multiple ways, including email, file sharing and server. Users can also enjoy variety in interfaces as the IBM Cognos Insight can be delivered through the iPad, web and Microsoft Excel. IBM Cognos Insight is a personal analytics tool that is sure to allow users to experience an enhancement in their business intelligence, all without any outside assistance.
